Final Canoe Races of Summer

Since we have a boys unit and a girls unit, we held just one overall race for unit supremacy today. It was a fun race, each unit had a pretty funny theme. The girls came down as hillbillies, and the boys were coal miners. Their associated cheers were funny as well. As for the race? It was close as they were turning around the buoy, but on the home stretch, one of the boys cabins was able to really jump ahead and take home the trophy!

Canoe Races!

Although the boys won both races, we some some great themes! Senior Girls showed up as "Gossip Girl", the Junior Girls had a Luau, the Junior Boys were bowlers, and the Senior Boys celebrated the "16th" birthday of Michael Poleto (he's really a lot older though). Enjoy the pictures!

Sixth Session Canoe Races

Wow! What a great finish to canoe races this summer. One race, three canoes for each village (boys/girls). Each village had funny themes with even better cheers, nobody was dissapointed. The energy was unmatched as everyone knew, whomever won this race, would hold the coveted trophy for the next 10 months until canoe races resumed during the summer of 2009. Now that we have finished canoe races, campers are focusing their attention on preparing for hikes this afternoon as we all try our best to climb Buck Mountain!

Canoe Races

Fifth session canoe race themes saw the junior boys act like senior boys and vice versa. Senior girls arrived as kindergarteners while the junior girls arrived as 101 dalmatians in plain view of Cruella Deville. As for the races, it was really close for quite sometime in both races, however the boys were victorious in both races bringing their record this summer to 9-1. After canoe races campers returned to their villages to get ready for their day hikes and by 1:30, all of camp was empty. Campers won't return to Camp until around 5pm when they will be greeted with a wonderful pavilion meal and of course, the Camp dance!

Canoe Races

Canoe Races. Junior Boys v. Junior Girls. Senior Girls v. Senior Boys. The tradition lives on. Today, for the fourth time, Canoes Races took place down at our Senior Unit and then on the water. Each village came through with great themes, the Senior Girls celebrated "Arbor Day", in style and their race with the senior boys was remarkable. The two boats were neck and neck all the way to the finish before the senior boys eeked out a victory by less then three feet. It was easily the closest race I can remember. In the race before, the junior boys took home the trophy defeating the junior girls.

Canoe Races

Canoe Races...three teams...Blue (Camptoria), Red (Buckslavic Territories), and Green (Ratlin Bog Empire) all came together in the Senior Unit where the oldest boys reside. It was a great battle of cheering, yelling, creative skits, but ultimately it had to be settled on the water. There were still two races, a juniors and seniors. In the juniors race, the green team took home victory and in the seniors race, the red team took both first and second place. Both races were extremely exciting and very close, and zero canoes capsized! We followed the entire event up with a fabulous cookout with hot dogs, hamburgers, and pasta salad. Worry not, there was of course an excellent vegetarian option!

Canoe Races in May?!?!

Well, they're not exactly here for Canoe Races, but they are canoeing on the Lake in the War Canoes! Today Hoosic Valley braved the elements and took out five of our canoes for a little adventure. Sure there were no themes, but each canoe still had a skilled staff member sterning the boat clear of obstacles. I helped put the canoes in the water, and stepped in upto my ankle...yeah the water is still pretty cold!!!
