It was supposed to be nice...

Yesterday, Dan, Lauren, and I decided to scale Buck Mountain for the first time this spring. The weather was supposed to be great. A warm fifty degrees, maybe a slight breeze. But nothing we couldn't handle right? Wrong. By time we reached first lookout, there were some snow flurries and by time we reached the top of Buck, it was a full blown blizzard! The picture above was the best photo I was able to take of the still frozen lake. If you look carefully, you can see there are some noticeable cracks in the ice...won't be long now until we have lots of open water. That is as long as it does not snow anymore.

It's a Big Moment

Look carefully otherwise you might not see it...but yes, Buck Mountain has snow! I'm sure some of you have already seen snow, but this is a historic day at Chingachgook. The first Buck snowfall/accumulation of the year. Which brings us to the next question. When will Lake George freeze? Post your guess in the comments section, anyone who guesses correctly will win a free Chingachgook Sweatshirt!

Camp Reunion a success

Yesterday, about forty brave souls joined Josh and me at Camp and climbed all the way to the summit of Buck Mountain. The weather held out nicely with some great patches of sun along the way. As we reached the top, we were greeted with a crisp cool breeze. Josh and I estimate that with the wind chill, it was a brisk 40 degrees on the top. If you're bummed about missing this reunion, fear not, there will be another reunion in May where we will open up a couple of program areas for you to enjoy. Until then, get ready to register for Camp in a few days!!

Some Good Hiking to 2nd Lookout

In the spirit of Memorial Day Weekend, it was only appropriate to spend at least a little time hiking, right? A couple of the Chinga staff (Megan and Erinn) and I decided to test the strength of the Chingachgook trail up Buck Mountain. Stopping along the way only to improve trail conditions, flag trees, and give my dog water, we made our way up too and past 2nd lookout. It was a fantastic adventure with the temperatures being warmer up the mountain versus ground level at Camp. We stopped at the base of "Devil's Staircase", not because we were scared, because we weren't, but rather we needed to return to Camp to participate in programs during Family Camp. We made it back in time and fear not, we will return and summitt the complete mountain several times this summer. YES WE CAN!!
